Samsung Electronics: Another Record Quarter 2017

By The Market Mogul, Oct. 17, 2017

Samsung Electronics has had a big turnaround in operating profit since the third quarter of last year when profitability was hit by the fallout from overheating batteries and product recalls of its flagship Galaxy Note 7 smartphones. The company has released guidance for its 2017 third-quarter earnings, and it looks like they will mark a second consecutive record-breaking quarter for the South Korean technology giant. The group’s Galaxy Note 8 smartphone has been well received, with no sign of batteries catching fire, and is set to ship over 10m units this year boosting profitability in the mobile device division which made up over 40% of second quarter revenues. And both semiconductors, which made up close to 25% of revenues, and displays, which contributed another 20% to revenues, have seen strong markets and average selling price rises so far this year.
